(KNSI) – Construction is beginning just days before the unofficial start to summer in central Stearns County.

Between Farming Township and Richmond, Knife River Contracting will begin installing erosion control devices and pavement removal on Monday. The work is scheduled for County Highway 23 from County Road 42 to County Road 111. Over six miles long, the stretch runs south until it reaches the Sauk River and then follows the water along the northern bank until Richmond. The Sauk dumps out into the Horseshoe Chain of Lakes soon after.

The planned completion date is October 27th. Local traffic is allowed but delays should be expected. Through traffic must find an alternate route.

The detour for the project involves County Highways 10, 40, and 9. A map is below.
