(KNSI) – Registration for this year’s Tour of Saints bike ride is open, with significant discounts if you sign up early.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 9th. Described as a heavenly little ride, the Tour of Saints is not a competition. Over 1,000 people will enjoy three courses, consisting of the Lake Wobegon Trail or hilly and scenic area roads. Event Director Michael Doyle says it becomes almost a regional celebration.

“One thing that I always comment on is the camaraderie of both the riders and the volunteers. I have people that call me up to volunteer every year because they look forward to doing this because they enjoy the participants, the riders, so much, and vice versa. We have people always say what great volunteers we have up there and they always look forward to the rest stops.”

There are areas to pull off and enjoy treats like pastries and chocolate chip cookies from Cold Spring Bakery, plus fruit and refreshments.

Doyle says it turns into quite the scene.

“We start riders registering at 6:30 [a.m.] all the way through 8:30 [a.m.] and we let them go as they’re ready rather than sending them out in some kind of a mass start. So, by the time you get out on the rides, it’s spread out over the course of, maybe, 10 miles or so.”

Proceeds benefit the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota, which maintains and renovates trails throughout the state.
