(KNSI) – Metro Bus operators will be saddling up a whole host of ponies for the Local Bus Roadeo. They’ll be in control of way more than one buckin’ bronc.

Roughly 300 horsepower of a Dial-a-Ride or Fixed Route bus will be at their fingertips as they maneuver around the K Lot at Saint Cloud State University near the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The winner must display a mastery of tests meant to mimic real-life conditions, including an obstacle course and acceleration test.

Chief Executive Officer Ryan Daniel says, “The closed course presents the Bus Operators with challenges much like those they face on the road every day. It is always exciting to watch our Operators showcase their skills on the obstacle course while they enjoy friendly competition with their colleagues.”

Metro Bus has done Local Roadeos since 1986. The top finishers for each bus size have a chance to go to the Minnesota State Roadeo, which company drivers have won 24 times in its history. On occasion, they have even placed in national and international competitions.
