(KNSI) – The man who pleaded guilty to stabbing a train engineer in Sauk Rapids in an incident last fall has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and a five-figure restitution payment.

The total owed to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway by Samuel David Hohman is $13,319. He jumped aboard one of the company’s trains on September 20th. The 41-year-old man choked the engineer and told him to speed up and leave town. Hohman is then believed to have pulled a knife from the bag he was carrying and stabbed the engineer in the forehead. The engineer was able to get away by biting Hohman’s hand and jumping off the train. He was found by Sauk Rapids Police Department officers on the tracks with blood on his hand and face.

The train continued down the line and came to a stop in Sartell. Hohman was then arrested. Hohman had blood on his pants and several wires in the train car had been cut. Police found the knife tucked away inside Hohman’s clothing.

Hohman has an extensive criminal history.
