(KNSI) – Wildwood Ranch Maple Syrup will have two public tours as operations ramp up this spring.

The hour-long open houses will cover a walk out into the forest at Kraemer Lake-Wildwood County Park in St. Joseph. The sessions begin at noon on Sunday, March 26th, and April 2nd. Registration is required and a link is here.

Since part of the tour is outside, boots or other mud-appropriate footwear is recommended. You will get a chance to see two different methods of extracting sap from the trees, including the traditional bucket and modern vacuum pipelines.

The tour will also include the sugar house and the processing equipment like reverse osmosis machines and evaporators that help turn sap into sugar.

The event is free but Stearns County Parks Department officials say you have to click payment in the online recreation catalog to receive a receipt for your registration slot.
