(KNSI) – Stearns County is pulling its snowplows off the road on Tuesday night.

Officials say they will stop plowing at 7:00 p.m. and will begin plowing again around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Schools were called off or closed early on Tuesday after several inches of snow fell in the area. Several businesses also closed early.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. After that, a winter weather advisory will go into effect and last until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The St. Cloud area could see up to ten inches of snow by the time the winter storm passes.

The Minnesota State Patrol says they have responded to around 250 crashes between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Twenty people were hurt in those crashes, but none seriously. Over that time, they also responded to 469 spin-outs and six jackknifed semis.
