New JoeTown WinterWalk Festival Co-Directors Marshall Herron and Raj Chaphalker are reinventing the event.
Now organized by a nonprofit group with a board of directors, there is a cohesive vision for the festival, says Chaphalker.
“Our mission is to bring people together to celebrate the warmth of local hospitality offering appealing activities and entertainment to a wide range of participants. Our organization’s vision is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere to enrich the fabric of the community.”
The values guiding the group are community, local artisans and businesses, inclusiveness, tradition, progress and the overall volunteer and sponsor experience.
WinterWalk began as a tree-lighting ceremony only about 10 years ago. That is still the feature event, scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Chaphalker lists some of the other fun in St. Joseph.
“One of the cool things is Bad Habit Brewing Company is doing a specialty Joetown WinterWalk Festival beer that’s custom for our festival. Jupiter Moon is doing hot chocolate and cookie decorating. The Saint Ben’s Sisters are doing harp music and wine at their Whitby Gift Shop and Gallery, just on their campus.”
Santa’s Village will be set up on the porch of Bella Cucina Italian Restaurant. The Man in Red will be on hand for photo opportunities. Live music will also be at Krewe Restaurant.
Several of the activities will be back starting at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow.
