(KNSI) – Catholic Charities of the Diocese of St. Cloud’s annual Mardi Gras bash is going virtual this year due to COVID-19 concerns.

Executive Director Steve Pareja says that even though we can’t gather with friends and colleagues this time around, the virtual event does offer something an in-person event can’t.

“The small blessing of us going virtual is we’re able to reach out to family and friends who aren’t in the St. Cloud area and invite them to participate. So you know, if you’ve been to Mardi Gras in the past, if you recognize how much fun it is, it’s an opportunity to reach out beyond our Minnesota borders.”

The event is set for Saturday, January 23rd, and those who register by January 15th get some fun accessories.

“Before this Friday,” Pareja says, “you’ll also have the opportunity to sign up for Mardi Gras in a box. And this is put together with Custom Catering. This will give you an opportunity to purchase a box that has not only some food and some wine, but also some fun in it. It’s a party in a box, you’ve got a mask, you’ve got beads, you’ve got a good time.”
