(KNSI) – Terebinth Refuge Founder CeCe Terlouw-Kvistad started the organization to specifically focus on adults dealing with the consequences of human trafficking.

Drawing on the connections she had made with the Central Minnesota Human Trafficking Task Force, she opened the shelter in Waite Park. Terebinth is having its annual RISE Breakfast Fundraiser on September 15th. Terlouw-Kvistad says the theme for this year’s event is restoration.

“There’s a really great opportunity to hear from two survivors that want to tell about what it took for them to get to the wonderful place they’re at now in their lives and what it takes for survivors of trafficking and exploitation to be restored to a healthy lifestyle.”

Terlouw-Kvistad talks about the challenges adults face from being trafficked.

“What we have found is most of the women that we have served over the years have been trafficked and exploited since youth, and so it set them on that trajectory of struggle with their self-image and making it easier for someone who sees that vulnerability to exploit it.”

A link to register to attend is here. Everyone at the breakfast will get a free meal. It runs from 7:30 to 9:00 at the Park Event Center.
