(KNSI) – For many races this election cycle we already know what the ballot will look like come November. In a majority of positions, the incumbent is running unopposed, particularly at the city and county level, or there is a lone representative from each political party vying for a particular position.

Some question marks remain, though. GOP incumbent Michelle Fischbach will face either Jill Abahsain or Alycia Gruenhagen from the DFL party. A potential third party spoiler in the 7th Congressional District race is Travis “Bull” Johnson of the Legal Marijuana Now Party.

In the state Senate, Republican incumbent Jeff Howe is being challenged by Ashley Burg in District 13. The winner goes against DFLer Alissa Brickman in November to represent Sartell, Sauk Rapids, Collegeville and St. Joseph, Cold Spring, and much of Stearns County heading southwest until Paynesville.

District 15 includes northern Sherburne County and a majority of Benton County, among other jurisdictions. Republican incumbent Andrew Miller breezed to victory in 2020 but is not running this time around. GOP candidates Gary Dahms and Larvita McFarquhar will battle to see who gets DFLer Anita Gaul.

Heather M. Bondhus, Sean Gitch, and Christine Scherbing are all running against incumbent Nadean Inman for Benton County Auditor/Treasurer. Inman was recently sued by the county over claims that she is living in Sherburne County, which would make her ineligible for the position. The primary in August will trim the number of candidates to two.

District 4 for the Sherburne County Board of Commissioners has five candidates running, including Gary H. Gray, Jerome (Lefty) Kleis, Carol Lewis, Eric Meyer, and Kari Watkins. The top two vote getters advance to the general election. The winner will represent east Saint Cloud and Clear Lake.

One Stearns County Board of Commissioners seat will see a primary. District 4 is being vied for by Darrell Bruestle, Lana Feddema, and incumbent Leigh Lenzmeier. The jurisdiction includes Saint Augusta, south Saint Cloud, and Waite Park. The top two vote getters advance.

Saint Cloud’s 2nd Ward, the eastern part of the city and Hester Park heading north will have three candidates on the ballot in August. Sandra Brakstad, Seal Dwyer, and Karen A. Larson will try to win the seat, which added territory during the most recent redistricting. The top two advance.

Wright County Board of Commissioners District 1, stretching from Annandale to Buffalo, has candidates for the August race. Tina Diedrick, Michael Holmstrom Jr, and Terry Strege will see the field narrowed to two after competing in a primary.

One school board race makes the list. Eight people have filed for the St. Cloud Area School District, #742. The primary cuts the candidate roster to six. Running are two incumbents Zachary Dorholt and Natalie Ringsmuth, along with Mike Bueckers, Theresa Carlstedt, Chantal Oechsle, Nicole Rierson, Bashire Omer, and Heather Weems. They are competing for three open seats.

Late on Wednesday, Stearns County reopened the filing period for potential candidates in District 3 for the Board of Commissioners. Incumbent Jeff Mergen has filed an affidavit withdrawing from the race. If no one else enters, Jeff Bertram will be the lone person on the ballot in November.

The State of Minnesota has set the primary date this year for August 9th.
