(KNSI) – St. Cloud city hall’s redevelopment project received approval for planning and rezoning from the city council. No one spoke at Monday night’s public hearing on the project. The current city hall would be torn down and replaced with a 24,000 square foot office building. A restaurant could be added to the building on the west side of the property at a future date.

A public hearing has been set for November 22nd where the council must approve financial terms for the project to proceed. St. Cloud has an agreement to sell the property at 400 2nd Street South to Frauenshuh Commercial Real Estate for $1 million and the developer to be awarded a $400,000 Construction Assistance Program grant for development expenses.

The money can be used for the demolition of the old building or other expenses. More funding may be needed if hazardous materials abatement and soil remediation have to be done. The city will find out before the public hearing. The property will be fully taxed upon completion of the project.

Bremer Bank will move from its current downtown location. St. Cloud’s administrations will move into the former Tech High School building next year after renovations are done.
