(KNSI) — Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman will make history as she will be the first woman to lie in state at the Minnesota State Capitol this week.
Hortman, her husband Mark, and their Golden Retriever, Gilbert, will be honored in the Capitol rotunda, where the public can pay respects from noon to 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 27th. Hortman joins fewer than 20 Minnesotans who have lain in state at the Capitol.
A private funeral service will follow on Saturday, June 28th.
The Hortmans were shot to death inside their Brooklyn Park home on June 14th.
