(KNSI) – Sauk Rapids City Council will discuss the 2024 budget for the first time in a meeting Monday at 5:00.
The preliminary draft for next fiscal year calls for a general fund increase of 7.46%, which is slightly larger than what’s being proposed by St. Cloud. It represents an increase of $571,000 year-over-year to $8,220,900.
The main drivers for the hike in spending come from wage and benefit costs for city employees and hiring a new police officer. The tax capacity is forecast to increase by 15%, meaning the rate will fall even though homeowners will pay more.
The next budget meeting is set for September 11th. The final document is expected to be adopted on Monday, December 11th.
A regular council meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. following Monday’s budget session. The agenda consists of staff updates and consent items only.
