(KNSI) – An investigation is underway to figure out how a large fire started in a Stearns County landfill Tuesday morning.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says someone called 911 about 6:30 a.m. to say that there was a fire burning in the landfill at Tom Kraemer Sanitation in Wakefield Township.

Firefighters from Cold Spring, Rockville, Richmond, and the Chain of Lakes fire departments all responded to find a large area of the landfill was burning. It took several hours for the fire to be fully extinguished.

Crews from Mayo Ambulance were also called in, but there were no injuries.
